“A set-apart young woman is marked by the imprint of Christ. She possess a placid calmness. Like an oak tree in the midst of a raging storm, she remains unruffled by life’s cares. She possess a confidence that is otherworldly. She smiles at trials, laughs at challenges, and is undaunted by the thought of dying. She cares not whether the world applauds her life; her ears are attuned...

“He can’t be conveniently fit into our lives; He must become what our lifestyles are are built around. From the moment we wake up until the moment we go to sleep, He must become the center. And when He does, we quickly realize that God’s dreams unlock the beauty of life itself.”

I Have Let You Down Again, Father
I have let you down again, Father.
Oh, how I tried hard but I’ll try harder.
Promises I want to make, I can’t keep.
I hate my talk, my talk is so cheap.
I’ve made it far, but I’ll make it farther.
Next time I will be stronger, better.
Next time your trust I will honor.
My shame is great, my sin so deep.
I have let you down again, Father.
A thousand times I claimed your martyr.
A million times...

The List Keeper
I keep lists. Not organized/to-do/accomplished lists but awful ones. I store these lists in my heart and they record the ways in which people have hurt me or let me down. I didn’t realize that I did this until my mom pointed it out to me and I hated to hear it but only because it’s true. Some people may recognize these lists as unforgiveness or bitterness.
Forgiveness is a strange...

Cardboard
I opened a square, brown box made of flimsy, uncertain cardboard and placed you in it. I gave you everything needed to suppress any impulsive feelings you might entertain. I rushed back and forth grabbing whatever I could lay my sweating, desperate hands on. You watched, smiling from your box like joy, like love, like everything you wanted. You were surrounded by styrofoam packing peanuts...

The World Conquered
“The love for equals is a human thing - of friend for friend, brother for brother. It is to love what is loving and lovely. The world smiles. The love for the less fortunate is a beautiful thing - the love for those who suffer, for those who are poor, the sick, the failures, the unlovely. This is compassion, and it touches the heart of the world. The love for the more fortunate is a rare...

Too often we forget to adore Him...
“Too often we forget to adore him, to thank him for His incredible love and faithfulness to us. But in every generation there are a few who make another choice - a choice to shamelessly, tenderly, reverently, adore their Prince, no matter what they are going through. And they are filed with a matchless radiance that is not of this world.”

Abide With Me
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away; change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me. I need thy presence every passing hour. ...

“What scars me most are the people who are lukewarm and just don’t care. I think that if I did a poll of the readers of this book, many of you would say, ‘Yeah, I am definitely lukewarm at times, but I’m not really at a place to give more to God.’ Many of us believe we have as much of God as we want right now, a reasonable portion of God among all the other things in...

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature...

“It is fear that keeps us from changing the world. It is fear that keeps our mouths shut when we know we need to speak. It is fear that keeps us sitting when we know we need to stand. And it is fear that keeps us from giving everything when we wonder if we will ever get it back. We fear what might happen, we fear what might not happen, we fear what people think, and we even fear what we...
